If you like to walk, hike or jog, this is for you. WalkStyles and the WeWhoWalk Tour, a national tour through all 50 state capitals to promote wellness and community through walking, will be in Providence on Tuesday, Sept. 18!

Sue Parks, WalkStyles CEO and tour director, along with WalkStyles’ Providence co-ambassadors, First Lady Susan Carcieri and Stephen Farrell, Regional CEO of UnitedHealthcare, will lead a 5-mile walk on a scenic route that highlights Providence. The Governor of Rhode Island will also be participating in the morning festivities, and will take time to greet the walkers. It’s free to participate (and receive a free t-shirt and light breakfast), but you must register for a free membership at www.walkstyles.com by Monday, Sept. 17, to do so.

The tour is in relation to the recently re-designed WalkStyles’ website, www.walkstyles.com, which is a free social networking site designed to connect walkers and those who want to live a life of wellness through walking.

If you love to walk and want to meet new people, hop online to become a free member on www.walkstyles.com by Sept. 17 (which automatically registers you for the walk), grab your walking shoes, and meet at the Westin Hotel, 1 W. Exchange St., at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18. See you then!

For more information, visit www.walkstyles.com.

Providence, Rhode Island has a hospital. Providence has many medical professionals operating in a variety of specialties. Fundamental healthcare begins with an individual or family?s access to a general physician, call it a family doctor or for children, a Pediatrician and for women a Gynecologist. Certainly, for people like me, a good therapist; better yet, a Psychiatrist! But why is it that someone in Providence, Rhode Island cannot locate a physician that will take new patients?
CityBlog Providence, was struck by the frustration that was apparent in Susie Pena’s (a Providence, Rhode Island resident) post on May 9, 2007, which read as follows:
I have been here 1 year this June and have yet to find a doctor that will accept new patients. I am very discouraged that there is no avenue for new residents to find out who is available without a lot of labor intensive efforts.
Does Providence have a physician association or, does the hospital know of new physicians coming into Providence that are looking for new patients? It would behoove all communities to have some centralized service that maintains a list of physicians who can accept patients as either “new” or on a rotating basis until the new resident can establish regular healthcare.
